I believe that research should not be confined to the lab; we should be engaging with people beyond the academia. Here you can see more about my work in the community
Public and Patient Involvement
I am interested in research which works in collaboration with key stakeholders and members of the public.
For my PhD research, I have established a Local Advisory Council of think-tanks, non-governmental organisations and experts by experience. I meet with my LAC to share my research and gain feedback on my methods and findings, so that I can ensure it is maximally impactful and sensitive to the needs and desires of stakeholders.
On projects I have previously worked on, such as Augmented Social Play-belong, we have collaborated with (a) adolescent co-researchers, who can feed back on the design of the project and our studies while gaining research experience, and (b) expert co-researchers, such as think-tanks and NGOs, who can inform on their local context. This has allowed us to develop our smartphone-enabled psychotherapeutic intervention in a manner which is accessible, enjoyable and likely to be implemented on a broad scale.

Engaging the Psychologists of the Future
I regularly deliver talks to students in secondary schools, such as Coláiste Ráithín, Bray, and Gorey Community School, about studying and careers in psychology. It is incredibly exciting to speak to young people who are considering psychology, dispel common myths about psychology, and encourage young people to pursue higher education.
I was also a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland's Student Affairs Group Events Team. We organised events and panels about the various disciplines and careers in psychology for undergraduate psychology students, allowing them to make informed choices about their future.
